The Burleigh Morton Behavorial Health Student Committee has conducted multiple "sticker shock" events aimed at reducing underage drinking and substance use in Bismarck/Mandan community. This project is an environmental strategy that gives youth a voice in addressing the problem of the availability of alcohol to minors and allows them to take an active role in reducing the problem by allowing them to place stickers on different items in grocery stores, sports events, and liquor stores.
The messages:
- "Do you know the lat? Providing alcohol to a minot may result in fines up to $3,000 and 365 days in jail."
- "Parents are the #1 reason kids don't drink. It starts at home. Talk early. Talk often."
- "Culture is prevention: Bye proactive, not reactive, when it comes to substance abuse."
