Time to get creative! The Friends of the Bismarck Public Library are asking aspiring artists of all ages to help them create some new bookmark designs. The Create Your Own Bookmark contest designates five age categories from which winning designs will be chosen. Selected designs will be printed as bookmarks and distributed at the library in 2023. To enter, complete the contest entry form and drop it off at the Children's Library by December 1.

This story time is for children held in caregiver laps for books, songs, and puppets. Through this story time interaction, your baby will develop language and social skills. Plus, story time fosters a close emotional relationship between you and your baby. Babies learn to associate books with the pleasure of being with parents, and this pleasure will translate to a love of reading.

This story time focuses on books, puppets, and songs. Speaking puppets help bring stories to life and spark the imagination in your child. Our main focus at Preschool Story Time is to instill a love of reading, encourage creativity, and help children become aware of the world around them.

B.A.R.K. is for kids who want practice reading with non-judgmental listeners—dogs! The Library offers this special program with local therapy dogs. Children in grades K-5 sign up to read aloud to a dog for 20 minutes (handler present). Contact Youth Services for details and to register.

Chess Club for Kids is open to young people who want to learn about and play chess. The club will be led by Kamryn Hellman. No registration is required for this club that will meet twice monthly on Thursday evenings in the Children's Library Story Room. Participants under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult or companion aged 12+.

During regular Library hours when walk-in times are not available, HQ will be available for individual or group study by teens in grades 6-12 by accessing a key from the Adult Information Desk. Teens are required to show a school or photo ID to Library staff in order to use the room. If teens do not have a school ID, they can ask to have one made by the Library staff. They should stop by the Children's Information Desk to inquire. Electronics and other items are only available for check-out use during HQ walk-in hours when the room is monitored by Library staff or volunteers.

Hang out with other board game enthusiasts to play some favorites or try something new.
