  1. “One Woman, One Vote” Film Screening

    January 7, 2020, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM @ Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library Meeting Room A

On December 1, 1919, North Dakota voted to ratify the 19th Amendment. By August of 1920, 36 states (including North Dakota) ratified the amendment, ensuring that all across the country, the right to vote could not be denied based on sex. Susan Sarandon narrates this film, which documents in considerable detail the 70-year struggle of the Women’s Suffrage Movement. This well-researched program highlights leaders and events, and probes the tactics, alliances, and schisms that marked the movement from Seneca Falls in 1848 to the passing of the 19th Amendment in 1920. An impressive collection of archival photographs and film, interviews with historians, and quotes from Stanton, Stone, Terrell, Paul, and others set the movement in the greater context of U.S. history the Civil War, westward expansion, the Progressive Movement, and WWI. Sponsored with the North Dakota Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission.
