Fire Department Hosts 6-Year-Old for Station Tour

BISMARCK, ND—The Bismarck Fire Department recently welcomed 6-year-old Royce to the station for a special visit. The visit was coordinated in partnership with Living Hope Church as part of the Best Day Ever program, founded by Andy Lam. Royce, who is currently undergoing treatment for cancer, spent the afternoon learning about fire service operations with the crew, having fun, and sharing some laughs.

During his visit, Royce toured the fire station, went for a ride in the department’s ladder truck in the captain's seat, helped to set up the ladder truck, and had the opportunity to operate a hose line under firefighter supervision.

The fire crew had a wonderful day hanging out with Royce, showing him the equipment, and playing catch with the football. It was a meaningful opportunity to share our work and support a young member of our community. Captain Dusty Schlittenhardt remarked, "It was heartwarming to see Royce full of energy throughout the afternoon and doing so well in his battle with cancer."

The event is part of the department’s ongoing commitment to community engagement, especially in support of families and children facing medical challenges.
