In an effort to get sandbags to residents in the most affected parts of the city, the North Dakota National Guard is delivering pallets of sandbags to several Bismarck neighborhoods. In just one day, guard soldiers delivered more than 200,000 sandbags to several neighborhoods.
Sandbag pick-up points are available at the following addresses:
• Prairie Rose School ( 2200 Oahe Bend) This site has been moved from 48th and Sibley Drive
• Wachter Middle School (1107 South 7th Street)
• Municipal Baseball Park (South Washington Street and Front Avenue)
• Civic Center Lot C (southwest side of building)
• Hogue Island
These sandbags are for homeowners whose homes are most affected by the flood. Sandbags will be delivered to those sites periodically throughout the week. The number of deliveries will be based on the number of filled sandbags available at the city’s sandbag sites.
Volunteers are needed at the city’s three manned sandbag sites. Those sites include:
• Missouri Valley Fairgrounds (3805 E. Bismarck Expressway) - open 24 hours
• Sandbag Central South Northern Plains Commerce Center (1901 Northern Plains Drive) - open 24 hours
• Sandbag Charlie (521 South 22nd Street) – open 24 hours
Volunteers are asked to bring a shovel, gloves and protective eye gear. Volunteers at the manned sites must register before they begin filling sandbags. Parental consent is required for those under age 18. Consent forms are available at all manned sandbag sites . You can also download the consent form at www.bismarck.org.
Self-fill sites are located at the following sites:
• Horizon Middle School (500 Ash Coulee Drive)
• Santa Fe Avenue, Cottonwood Complex west of South 12th Street
• 48th Avenue and Sibley Drive (daylight hours only)
• Ponderosa Park (daylight hours only)
• Hogue Road (daylight hours only)
