The City of Bismarck is reminding residents and businesses to be lawful about the locations used to display signage in the community.
Signs of any kind are not allowed in the public right of way without approval of the City. These locations include, but are not limited to:
- Boulevards
- Utility poles
- Street lights
- Bridges
- Fences
- Railings
- Sidewalks
- Fire hydrants
- Traffic signals
- Street signs
- Sign posts
Any signs in these areas are subject to removal and additional enforcement. Violation of the ordinances is a Class B misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to $1,500 and/or 30 days in jail. Signs and other advertisements are required to be placed on private property and in conformance with the zoning ordinance.
