The dedication of the Liberty Memorial Bridge Parks in Bismarck and Mandan will take place at a public ceremony Friday, May 20, 11:00 a.m., at one location, the Richard M. Longfellow Veterans Park, 2001 Pirates Loop S.E., Mandan. In the event of bad weather the dedication will be held at the Mandan Parks and Recreation office, 2600 46th Ave S.E., Mandan. (Raging Rivers Waterpark location.) The public will be notified through local media the morning of the event if the location is changed due to weather.
The program will consist of the presentation of the colors by the VFW Post 707 and American Legion Post 40, Mandan Honor Guard, remarks from the Mayors of Bismarck and Mandan, Ben Kubischta, ND Department of Transportation, and several public and private officials involved in the parks project.
The public is welcome and invited to attend this celebration of rich heritage with parks overlooking the footprint of the original transition piers preserving the history of the landmark bridge.
The easiest route from Bismarck to the Richard M. Longfellow Veterans Park is to take Bismarck Expressway, to the McKenzie Drive exit toward Mandan. Turn right onto McKenzie Drive S.E. Take the 1st left onto Marina Road S.E. (near Moritz Marine). Turn right onto Pirates Loop S.E. The park is near the underside of the Liberty Memorial Bridge.
