Over the years of its existence, the Bismarck Historical Society has been pleased to present many informative and entertaining lecture programs about Bismarck’s fascinating history. For the upcoming March Lecture Series meeting, the presentation will focus on some other interests and activities that the Society pursues in its continuing quest to discover, preserve and share the many stories that document Bismarck’s history.
Through the thoughtfulness and generosity of a growing number of present and/or past residents of the area, the Society has been building an archive of historical information and sources, and a collection of historical artifacts and objects. Through the magic of photography, PowerPoint, decorative displaying, and verbal description, some of these books, scrapbooks, photographs, works of art, etc., and a sampling of artifacts and objects, will be on display and will be discussed as part of the program. Another part of the program will discuss some of the processes involved in treating these archival and artefactual materials when they are entrusted to the Society. You might get some ideas for use with your own collections or precious artifacts when you get home.
The presentations will be made by Society member Ann Vadnie, former Bismarck High School English teacher and current popular speaker on Bismarck’s history, and Board Member Caroline Twingley, former Bismarck State College librarian, currently Chairperson of the Society’s Archives Committee and the Society’s Collections Committee.
