[ARCHIVED] Bismarck Planning Division seeks input on "Machining District"

The City of Bismarck Community Development Department Planning Division will hold a public open house seeking input on opportunities within the "Machining District".  The open house will be held Feb. 28, from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m., in the First Floor Conference Room located immediately to your left as you enter the City-County Office Building, at 221 N Fifth Street, Bismarck. Members of the public are invited to attend and participate at any time within the three-hour period.

Items to be discussed at the meeting include:

•    Possible changes to the zoning ordinance to facilitate high-quality redevelopment in the area, while protecting existing businesses and residents

•    Potential for Renaissance Zone Program expansion

•    An opportunity for the public to offer input, ideas, or concerns about the future of this area

The "Machining District" was identified in the 2017 Infill and Redevelopment Plan as a historic industrial area southeast of Bismarck's central business district that has experienced some commercial redevelopment in recent years. The current zoning is either the MA – Industrial zoning district or the CG – Commercial zoning district and has been in place for many years. The use of the term “Machining District” originated with the Infill and Redevelopment Plan, which was approved in 2016-2017, to describe the unique characteristics of this area. The “Machining District” label is not a formally adopted name for the area but has been used for the purposes of identification.

The Machining District study area includes an area identified between East Broadway Ave., portions of East Bowen and East Sweet Avenues, and between portions of North 7th St. and Airport Road.
