5:18 PM on Sunday, September 10, 2017, the Bismarck Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire at 1941 N 6th St. The first arriving officer gave an initial report of a residential structure that had smoke showing. Attack lines were advanced to the front door and interior fire crews searched the home for occupants and attacked the fire. The occupants were not at home at the time of the fire. The fire was under control in approximately 10 minutes. The family dog was found deceased inside the home. There was heavy fire damage to the kitchen and smoke damage throughout the house.
The fire department chaplain worked with the family to ensure they had lodging and assistance after the fire. The Bismarck Police Department provided traffic control and assistance to the fire department.
Metro Area Ambulance was on scene to provide medical care if needed.
A preliminary damage estimate is $50,000.00. Fifteen fire personnel responded to the fire with 4 fire engines, 1 rescue truck and 1 Command vehicle. There were no injuries at this incident.
Upon completion of the fire department’s investigation it was determined the cause of the fire was accidental. The fire appeared to start in the kitchen on the stovetop.
