The Bismarck Forestry Division will host a community recognition program and ceremonial planting Friday, May 5, 2017, 1:30 PM, at Sunrise Park, 3201 Northrop Drive, Bismarck. The public is welcome and invited to attend. The 2017 Arbor Day theme is: “Get Rooted In Bismarck: Arbor Day 2017.”
Each year ceremonial Arbor Day trees are dedicated to local citizens whose efforts have made a significant contribution to Bismarck's urban forest. The 2017 ceremonial tree planting is dedicated to Donald DuFrame in recognition of the thousands of trees he touched during his 25 years of service as an Arborist with the City of Bismarck Forestry Division.
The Arbor Day Ceremony will include Apple Seed Awards presented for 2016 landscape beautification efforts of public property and a Beautification Award for 2016 landscape beautification efforts on private property. Partners in Planting 2016 sponsors – community minded organizations that have partnered with the City to provide funds for a matching grant to help home owners plant street trees, will also be recognized during the program.
Fifth-grade students from Sunrise Elementary School will take part in the Arbor Day celebration.
The City of Bismarck will receive the 40th consecutive Tree City U.S.A. Award and national designation in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management.
A tree planting will take place (weather permitting) at the close of the program.
The Arbor Day ceremony is supported by the contributions of numerous sponsors that include:
