At 1:36 pm, June 11, the Bismarck Fire Department responded to a report of a possible fire in a single wide trailer house at 1119 University Dr. Upon arrival the firefighters found smoke coming from the roof vents and several windows. It appeared that no one was home at the time and the door was locked. When the firefighters opened the door to attack the fire, heavy black smoke came out the door. A dog also escaped the house at that point. Firefighters found and extinguished a fire on the kitchen stove. A search of the house confirmed that all occupants were evacuated. After a short time the owner of the house returned. She reported leaving 30 minutes earlier and said the stoves knob must have been bumped on.
There were no injuries to any civilians or firefighters during the fire. The occupants of the house will be displaced for a time. The Red Cross was called to assist the occupants to find a place to stay during the restoration and cleanup.
There was light fire damage to the kitchen, but smoke damage throughout the house. Preliminary fire loss estimates are approximately $11,000.
