[ARCHIVED] Community Practice Drill - Storm Report Survey

QR Code_Storm Report Survey

No matter where you happen to be within the Bismarck or the surrounding area, you’re welcome to participate in a community-wide “Storm Report Survey Practice Drill” any time of day on April 30. The week of April 28th through May 2nd is designated as Severe Summer Weather Awareness Week in North Dakota, and Bismarck Emergency Management is requesting your help to conduct a practice test of our city’s storm report survey tool.

The purpose of the survey tool is to help support timely situation awareness following a significant storm event to better understand scope and extent of damage and areas of impact.Timely and accurate situation awareness helps to determine potential community-wide recovery efforts that may be necessary.

To participate in the practice drill, please access the storm report survey tool and report any fictional impact or damages from any location within the Bismarck or immediate area. Please consider submitting a photo along with the assessment. As this is just a practice drill, the photo could be of something neutral or fun such as a tree, flower, insect, or sidewalk art, etc. (Photo size is limited to 5MB). You are welcome to submit multiple responses.

Using the QR Code located at the upper right will take you to the same survey.

Throughout the summer, any time a tornado watch is issued by the National Weather Service (favorable conditions for tornado formation), which includes the Bismarck area, or an actual significant storm event occurs, Bismarck will make the same storm report survey tool available via the city’s website and any combination of social media pages:

If we have an actual significant storm event, step one is to call 9-1-1 to report any immediate need for emergency response for the protection of life prior to using the storm report survey. The intent of the storm report survey is limited in purpose to follow-up planning for potential recovery efforts at the community level. Also, following an actual storm event, the survey tool should NOT be used until the threat of severe weather has subsided, and it is recommended to assess only your immediate area.

Unfortunately, city staff cannot provide assistance in using the survey tool at this time. If you have difficulty, please discontinue use of the storm report survey tool. After participating in the practice drill, you’re welcome to share feedback on your experience with the storm report survey tool here.

Thank you in advance for participating in this community-wide drill as a practice test.
