Bismarck, ND – The Bismarck Fire Department has been conducting ice rescue training as the ice gets thinner each day. This annual training is part of the department’s ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety of the community and maintaining the readiness of first responders for cold-weather emergencies.
During the training, firefighters will practice ice rescue techniques, including victim recovery, self-rescue, specialized equipment use, and communication. The exercise will simulate real-life scenarios to improve response times and effectiveness in ice-related emergencies.
Ice rescue incidents can be extremely dangerous for both victims and rescuers. This training ensures our firefighters are prepared to respond swiftly and safely to emergencies on frozen bodies of water all around the city.
