At 7:54 PM on Monday, March 20, 2017, the Bismarck Fire Department responded to several reports of a fire at 2601 State Street. Four engines, a rescue truck, and a Battalion Chief responded to the location of the North Arby’s building. The building is under remodel at this time.
Upon arrival firefighters found smoke, with some flames coming from the wall of the front entry of the building. Bismarck Police had arrived on scene, and used an extinguisher to knock down some of the fire which had burned an approximately 8 x 10 area of the wall of the entry. Firefighters from one engine company used an attack line to complete extinguishment after pulling apart the burning section of the wall. Other responding crews were allowed to clear the scene shortly after arrival.
The fire appears to have been accidental. The likely cause was sparks from metal cutting that had taken place on the entry to the structure earlier in the day. It apparently smoldered for some time before igniting the section of the wall. The fire had not extended to the inside of the building at all, so there was minimal damage. The building was turned over to the contractor working on the building.
