[ARCHIVED] Bismarck City Commission names Jason Tomanek assistant city administrator

Jason Tomanek, 39, a senior planner for the City of Bismarck, was named the assistant city administrator on Monday. Bismarck City Commissioners interviewed five candidates for the position including Tomanek. Tomanek will complete a master’s degree in business from the University of Mary in April with an emphasis in project management and employee retention, and holds two bachelor’s degrees; one in landscape architecture and one in environmental design from North Dakota State University in Fargo. “I am deeply humbled by this opportunity and truly look forward to the challenges that lie ahead. I am excited to continue working for the City of Bismarck in this new role and eager to help this community to continue to progress and grow in the years ahead,” said Tomanek.

As assistant city administrator, Tomanek will coordinate and direct the development of departmental goals, interdepartmental operations, and policies; aid in strategic planning activities, operations and policies within the city’s public service departments, manage the development of efforts to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, promote cooperative activities and act as a communication liaison with citizens.

Keith J. Hunke, incoming city administrator, said "I am very pleased with the city commission’s decision to appoint Jason Tomanek the next assistant city administrator. Mr. Tomanek is well suited for the position. He has extensive experience working with almost all Bismarck city departments during his 10 years of work in the Community Development Department. He utilizes a collaborative approach when working with residents, property owners, developers, consulting engineers, and builders. His extensive work experience, thorough understanding of city operations and cooperative, participatory management style will allow him to excel as Bismarck's next assistant city administrator."

Hunke will replace city administrator Bill Wocken who announced his impending retirement this spring.
