WHEREAS, millions of Americans engage in cycling because it is a viable and environmentally-sound form of transportation, an excellent form of physical fitness, and provides quality family recreation; and
WHEREAS, the education of cyclists and motorists as to the proper and safe operation of bicycles is important to ensure the safety and comfort of all users; and
WHEREAS, the League of American Bicyclists and independent cyclists throughout our state are promoting greater awareness of bicycle operation and safety education in an effort to reduce accidents, injuries and fatalities for all; and
WHEREAS, Bike-to-Work Week helps to increase public awareness for bicycling, educate the community about the benefits of bicycling for transportation purposes, and encourages people to try bicycle commuting. and urge our community to recognize the importance of sharing our streets and highways with cyclists and encourages citizens to participate in cycling activities to whatever extent possible during this week, including cycling to work.
NOW, THEREFORE, I Mike Seminary, Mayor of the City of Bismarck, do hereby PROCLAIM
