[ARCHIVED] Bismarck Fire Department responds to fire in Bismarck garage; no injuries

Bismarck, ND - At 2:46 pm the Bismarck Fire Department responded to report of a garage fire in the 600 block of North 21st Street. Upon arrival firefighters found smoke inside and flames outside of a detached garage. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire in about 10 minutes; the fire did not spread to any other buildings. 12 firefighters responded to the fire; no one was injured.

No one was home at the time of the fire but the owner returned home shortly after the fire was extinguished.

Preliminary fire loss estimate for the garage was $ 20,000. The fire damage to the contents was estimated at $7,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation; it appears the fire started from embers that came out of a wood burning stove.

The Bismarck Fire Department would like to remind you that when installing a wood burning device it is recommended a spark arrester be installed in the chimney and to only burn appropriate fuels.
