[ARCHIVED] Bismarck Fire Department Responds to Fire

At 8:50 AM on January 8, 2014 the Bismarck Fire Department responded to investigate a fire that happened sometime during the evening of the 7th or the early morning of the 8th.

The owner of 219 N. 18th St. arrived to open up for business when he discovered the fire and called fire officials.

The fire started in a garbage can where ashes were discarded. The fire burned combustibles inside the garbage can and the can itself, and burned up a wall into the ceiling. The fire burst a water pipe which sprayed water on the fire and put it out.

The building was used for private Meat Processing and would be closed until fire cleanup and building repairs can be made.

At this time damage estimates are about $70,000.

A reminder from the fire department, never discard hot ashes indoors, in the garbage, or near a structure. Place them in a metal container outside and away from structures.
