[ARCHIVED] Consumer Awareness Alert

Residents of the City of Bismarck may be receiving a letter from a company called American Water Resources of North Dakota. This company offers a service to provide repairs to water service lines if a leak should occur. American Water Resources of North Dakota is not affiliated with the City of Bismarck and the City of Bismarck does not endorse the service that they are offering.

In 2008 the City of Bismarck implemented a policy to take responsibility for any repairs to residential water service lines within the public right of way. This policy covers only residential users where 4 or less living units are served by the water line. The current monthly charge for this service is $1.25.

It appears that the American Water Resources service covers the portions of the water service line on private property that are not covered by the City repair program. Residents must individually evaluate American Water Resources and the service that is being offered and determine if it represents a good value for them.

The following link will provide complete details of the City service line repair policy: City service line repair policy
