Request Materials

Borrowing from Central Dakota Library Network Libraries

The majority of Bismarck Public Library’s items can be requested to be on hold for you at the library through our online library catalog, or over the phone at 355-1480. Our library catalog shows items from all CDLN locations which may be requested to be delivered to the Bismarck Public Library. You can request as many as 15 items on one account at a time.

If you are requesting Bismarck Public Library items that are checked in, expect to wait at least 24 hours for those items to be retrieved and ready for the hold shelf.

Borrowing from Other Libraries

If you cannot find the item you are looking for in our library catalog, the library provides Interlibrary Loan (ILL) services for our current cardholders who have a library card in good standing owing fees of less than $20.00. A patron may have up to five active requests at one time. Active requests include those on loan as well as those in process.

Materials that must be ordered from locations outside of North Dakota are subject to a $2.00 per item fee. If an item consists of more than 2 parts (i.e. 2 volumes), each volume will be charged the $2.00 fee. If the item is not picked up by the due date or the patron indicates he or she no longer wants the item, the $2.00 fee per item still applies and will be added to their library card. Requests for materials that are available within North Dakota are obtained free of charge. Additional fees may apply.
